ASM is not worth it. Paid for it in 2013, lost $5000. They show you how easy it is to “find” products to sell. This is very misleading. They showing how to identify products that can do well on amazon, I do give them that. However, finding a product is not easy. You can find 100s of suppliers for any product, that’s not the issue. The issue is finding a supplier that will give you a quality product (with quality I mean as good as whatever is sold on amazon) at a price where you can make a profit. Tried that, ended up spending lots of money on samples and got either terrible quality compared to what is sold on amazon or the price was so high that I would have lost money trying to sell it. Tried this with a few products and then decided to cut my losses. Even though they have a 30 day trial where I could get a full refund, the part where they show you how to acquire the product is in week 4. So, by the time I got my samples and realized I was screwed, it was too late for a refund. This product may be useful for someone with deep pockets or someone who already has a product. If someone needs buy in installments, they really shouldn’t, they will end up losing their money. I would say if you have at least 20k to spare, this course may work for you.

My guess is that the opportunity is much smaller than they are making it out to be – and that’s without all these new members. That’s why it makes sense for them to sell this course rather than keep the business model to themselves.

I’m going to take you from the VERY beginning of my Amazing Selling Machine journey, because I started from zero. Yes, today I do about $500,000 per month on Amazon, but I started off making about two sales a day. Yes, I started at zero, and you will too.

In September 2013, I started receiving emails from every “guru” and his dog about the Amazing Selling Machine (ASM) by Jason Katzenback and Matt Clark (which is not surprising after I found out that about $2000 out of the $4000 price for ASM is paid out as affiliate commission to people who promote it). The promo videos were certainly well done and I was intrigued by the idea of creating and selling my own private label products on Amazon. I was ready to join in after going through the long series of sales pitch videos, then they dropped the price bombshell.

Account creation and fundamentals- This module explains how to set up your business with Amazon seller. It also explains to you how to do a proper analysis and choose the product that will sell well on amazon.

I have another product that I’ve tested that I can sell between 30-35 units per day. The “leading version” of the product has over 400 reviews of the product and, based on my estimates, they probably make about $9/sale when all costs are figured in. The manufacturer wants a minimum order of 3000, but everything is negotiable and they are willing to settle for a minimum order of 500. So the investment is less than $1000 in order to buy a product that, I know from testing, can make $240 in profit per day. Sure, it won’t be all that easy to catchup to the “leading version”, but I play the long-game. You don’t need 400 reviews to sell your product if you’re willing to accept a little less money upfront.

5- Supplements also belong to a category of products whereby the branding is almost entirely wrapped into the marketing. Every year I go to the outlet sale at Meyer (cookware company) warehouse. You see product upon product and the only differentiating factor is which chef that product is branded for: Mario Batali vs Emeril Lagasse vs Rachel Ray vs that Italian lady. Same product, same company, different endorsement.

Affiliate marketing or selling on Amazon is going to take the initial time and work to find a niche product and make it sell. I’ve heard the margin of success is around 10%, but I think that would be pretty hard to verify. How many people start either one of these types of businesses and how long do the give themselves to be successful? Tough questions to get any real data on.

Launch: Think about launch day ahead of time. Traffic will not automatically flow just because you list it. It may be worth it to do PPC right of the gate. Inform the people on your launch list. If you know any influencers in the market, arrange with them ahead of time to mail for you. Your goal is just to get sales. 10 a day to gain momentum. When you make sells, you get rewarded with a Page 1 ranking. Page 1=More eyeballs=More sales. Your external list is so important. Always build your list.

The training seemed more along the lines of Ebay sellers now selling on Amazon FBA instead. Overall the course seems like good information but was looking for the info about automating the supply process and never having to box/ship my own stuff.

That’s the only frustrating part of this business – the time it often takes your product to arrive at Amazon is usually longer than you would like it to be. You’ll be so excited to get your product, and so pumped from the training, so that eight week waiting period can be an absolute torture. It also can play a role in managing inventory (discussed later).

I’ve done amazon FBA.. yes, it works, and yes, it even works to the tune of those two guys if you know what to do. But why are all these people promoting this when they’ve NEVER done it? This is what we need to ask of ourselves first… the promoters are the “best in the industry” and they haven’t done it, so why are they telling YOU & ME to give it a go… for $3,500???

5) The badge system, meaning that after you work through the modules, there are badges that you earn for doing certain tasks. They range from setting up you seller central account, to earnings badges, and everything in between. I think that is a fantastic system for getting people motivated. I found myself feeling proud of the badges that i was accumulating, and want to add more. it’s a great incentive system.

Ok lets assume you can test market your own product “Bobs” silicone spatulas, and you can try a small quantity, and at least start at a break even price as you market your brand. WHY would anyone buy your item vs an established top selling item??? Answer better price, ok now try to sell your item, against more established sellers, again and make a profit or break even.

Ultimately, you will have an experienced online internet multi-millonaire in your corner that has been through the Amazing Selling Machine and has helped thousands of people make money online on Amazon.

If the $4k was not an issue for me at this point, I would have joined. With all the promotional videos and pdf’s they did, it gave out alot of information and outlined the approach to their success. I decided to test the waters without the course and use the information already freely available in this forum and their promotional videos. Giving myself a deadline of choosing a product and finding a supplier by end of the month. Whether I have success or not using their Private Labeling method on my own, I will still join their next ASM course (if available); which hopefully by then, the $4k would not be an issue for me. Nothing ventured, nothing gained…

Looking over the first 2 videos released, I already know what they are going to pitch. I’ve gone through a course called China Importing Secrets (I think) and you can learn all about getting products labeled with your own brand name. I certainly don’t need to spend $3,500 to find out how they did it. And the software they are going to be selling can be done manually by looking at the top selling items in any category. One another forum, someone found a check list of tips and tricks to use from the Video Genesis launch.

Scott’s podcast has been a breath of fresh air for me as I prepare to launch my first product. I like his straight forward approach to building brands and launching products. He follows basic business sense but applies his world of knowledge around internet marketing to build your brand and and launch your product.
