Many small businesses and individuals have a need for these services, but not enough need to hire a full-time employee or temp through an agency. Assuming you’ve got a computer, a printer, and email (and the necessary skills), you’re all set. Be prepared to charge by the job, not by the hour.
A large proportion of homeowners and small businesses have lawns to tend to. Many turn to independent providers of yard work services to take care of their lawn care woes. To start and sustain a yard work services side business idea, you need training, equipment, and a growing network of customers. In the U.S., a full-time landscaping and groundskeeping worker reportedly earns a median wage of around $25,000, while those working on this as a side business idea largely during evenings and weekends can expect to make substantially less.
Did you know that English speakers are in high demand in Asia?  As a result many are turning to freelance English teachers using websites like Italki.com. The site is basically a virtual online classroom for freelance teachers and students.  Anyone can offer lessons (and set their own price) and anyone can take lessons.
Competition isn’t just about the goods or services themselves. It is also about your social and environmental credibility. Consumers are increasingly conscious of the need to show that your business is concerned with labor conditions and isn’t damaging the environment. Certification endorsements from reputable organizations, such as labels and stars, can reassure customers that your product or service is more aligned with their values than one lacking the certification.
Domain name trading has been around for the last couple decades, and while most slam-dunk names have long been sold off (Insure.com went for $16 Million in 2009) there’s still plenty of others that you can get your hands on for relatively cheap and broker as your side business idea. But beware: some experts doubt the long-term viability of this business idea, so you shouldn’t quit your day job just to put all your effort into this one without some successes already in the bag. To get you started, here are some tips from GoDaddy, arguably the world’s largest and most famous repository of domain names. Imagine owning desirable domain names for the next decade’s most innovative companies.
But you know the ideas are out there. This is not one of those problems where there might not be an answer. It’s impossibly unlikely that this is the exact moment when technological progress stops. You can be sure people are going to build things in the next few years that will make you think “What did I do before x?”
Online Store Owner: Sell products online through E-bay, Etsy or your own website. You will need to research registering the business name and what licenses you require (you can find most of this on our site). Use social media to promote your store or website. Research what others are doing, how they sell and learn as much as you can before you launch.

Dog walkers typically need no experience, just a love of dogs and a few clients to help get you started. Start your business telling neighbors and friends, and post ads outlining your services in local stores and online.
Online, you can be an affiliate which sells almost any service or product the internet has to offer. In fact, Amazon has an affiliate program which allows you to sell everything from Amazon’s huge stock. Popular industries that have high potential, but also somewhat high competitiveness include: Financial Products, Dietary Supplements, Gambling and Commerce.
If you’ve ever had a pet while living in an apartment, then you know how painful it can be to take them out for potty when it’s 10 degrees with a fierce wind. Or maybe you work long hours and always have to rush home to let them out. Or maybe you’re a senior citizen and it’s hard to make multiple trips in and out of your home.
Weekly goals are the more significant wins that likely can’t be completed in just one morning or evening’s worth of work. An example of a weekly goal would be finishing 2 solid blog posts designed to drive in traffic to check out your brand new product. Since there are a lot of different pieces that can go into the creation of a great blog post (images, links, statistics, free content downloads), this is a realistic weekly goal.
Think about the areas that you are either weak in, or have little knowledge of. Finding partners compatible with your personality who can fill in your knowledge or skill gaps is an excellent way to ensure your business has the resources you need to succeed.
Many businesses these days are focusing on marketing to millennials, but it might be worth it to start a business that caters to seniors instead. People are living longer than ever, and that opens up a whole new audience of customers. According to the National Institute on Aging, between 2010 and 2050, the 85-and-over population is projected to increase 351 percent globally – 188 percent for the 65-and-over population – and the global number of centenarians (those over age 100) is projected to increase tenfold. That’s a lot of people who could use specialty services for their needs.
400 Latest & Greatest Small Business Ideas makes better leisure reading than it may sound. I found Terry Kyle’s collection fascinating, and wished I were in front of my computer instead of stretched out, feet up! If you are thinking about opening a wholesale business, think twice! Although it’s typically easy and quick to be able to reach a high level of sales in this industry, you’ll find it a lot harder to earn a decent profit margin or perhaps even stay afloat at all. Most wholesale businesses operate on very thin profit margins that are possible only because of highly sophisticated and efficient operating procedures, tight credit and collections control, and most of all, a large volume of sales over which to spread overhead.
Be careful to only share what you’re ready to show the world, and always have a strategy when you post somewhere or reach out to someone. You may just wake up one morning and see your product on the homepage of your favorite website (that was a hell of a surprise).
Cool! For now Im doing Craigslist business… I buy cheap stuffs in eBay then sell in Craigslist with profit. It works but it takes time. Im not a sales person who can talk to sell someone about the product. Im a normal quiet guy. But in Craigslist I just wrote down the description of te product Im selling then post them. No need to sales talk someone will just email you if they want to buy that product. But I only meet in public places, with busy area so its safer. I hope this one helps 🙂
If you don’t mind doing other people’s chores, then TaskRabbit may be the right side business idea for you. Earn a little side money doing odd jobs like walking your neighbor’s dog or mowing Mr. Smith’s lawn. Running errands not your style? Tell that to the top taskers on the portal who reportedly earn as much as $7000 a month, making this a full-time business idea for some.
You will want to be sure that you are using marketing which is appropriate to the type of people you expect to be interested in your product or services. There is little point in using social media to, for example, advertise a 55+ only cruise line. Meanwhile, if you’re advertising for your new dance club, a printed newspaper is probably not going to be your best bet. There is also no point in advertising a business only available in Chicago to people in Seattle, so consider physical location as well.
This is a great time for a concierge business or errand business startup. In many areas where there is significant development in the luxury market (residential and commercial), you will find increasing opportunity for concierge service providers. I remember my first job as a residential concierge, which helped me start a concierge business from home. The knowledge I acquired while employed by an established concierge business set the groundwork for my long-term career as a concierge business entrepreneur and author.
It’s not impossible to compete with the mammoth retailers out there—the success of the various “Dollar” store chains shows this—but it is very, very difficult. You especially need a very carefully developed strategy that clearly differentiates your business and gives shoppers a clear reason for choosing your store.
Hold a yard sale. If you have a yard or garage and plenty of items to sell, you can have a yard sale as early as tomorrow. By advertising your sale on local Facebook pages and Craigslist, you can also skip the paid newspaper ad and keep all of the profits for yourself. If you don’t have time to price everything, try asking patrons to “make an offer” or grouping similar items on tables with an advertised price (e.g. everything on this table is $5).

What this means is that you’re able to monetize your blog, but only by using WordAds or Blogger’s Adsense ads. WordPress does allow affiliate marketing on their free platform — as long as you’re in compliance with their terms. Using a free platform limits your earning potential, but it gives you the initial foundation for building an audience. Once you have a little bit of money rolling in, you can easily transfer your blog over to the paid version of WordPress where you will be
